The pared-back blue floral design around the edge and lid with burgundy banding, and set against the buttermilk glaze is characteristic of this region. The old pottery from Puglia, like this piece, is robust and traditionally made for daily domestic use which gives it a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The charming ‘rigo and stella’ motif are typically very simple and particular to Grottaglie - a small town famous for its ceramics. The pot works well as storage, or simply as a decorative display item.
